Answers
Q1. How did you end up coming to lead King's Community Church in Lancaster?
Ian + Gel
Through a prophetic word given to the Apostle and Prophets as they were praying specifically for Kings.
Q2. Do you have any favourite parts of the Bible?
Ian
I have lots of favourite scriptures, too many to mention all here but here are two that I love:
"But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." (Jn 1:12. NLT).
Isn't this amazing that in Christ we become children of the One who created 'all things.'
"...being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Phil 1:6. NKJV).
I love this because it reminds me that, should I ever want to beat myself up a bit, God has begun a 'good work' in me.
Everything He does is good and more beside. It reminds me also that my life in Christ is for the long haul and not short term gains; it gives me a long distance view if you want and that I am, as they say, a 'work in progress.'

The scriptures that have really helped me grow, from being a very young christian to today are Romans 8, 12; 1 Corinthians 2; Ephesians; and Proverbs 2. I am however, still finding treasures in the Word.
Q3. If had to pick one thing that really helps you in following Jesus what would it be?
Ian
Keeping Jesus as my role model. Though I esteem and respect others, they, like me, can let people down, Jesus never will.
Gel
It would have to be the Holy Spirit. I learnt to see Him as my teacher as a young Christian and He has helped me so much. Or, if you want practical answer, Ian (my husband) and our marriage.
Q4. Where were you born? What was it like growing up there?
Ian
I was born in a little place in the Lake District which is in the North West of England, a place of outstanding natural beauty - sounding like a tourist guide. Really it is a beautiful place. Growing up there was very different to Geraldine's experience and indeed probably different to many children today. As a family we didn't have much as it was only a few years after the 2nd World War and rationing was still in use. We had a strong community spirit and open houses. Most of my time was spent outdoors, swimming in the summer months straight after school - lake/river or the Morecambe Bay. Weekends would be the same with big groups of us either at the open air pool or the beach. Cricket, Football, Rugby and tennis were my main sports. On leaving school, work was not a problem in those days as jobs were easy to find. All in all we didn't have much in the material way of things but what we had was good. We were brought up in a loving home and thanks to my parents, who worked hard, to provide for my sister and I.
Gel
I was born in Guys Hospital, London and lived in a street off the Old Kent Road. I had brothers and sisters so life was always full. We moved from London when I was 15 and then I joined the Womens Royal Air Force when I was 17.
Q5. Do you have any favouite hobbies or things you do in your spare time?
Ian
I love reading - all kinds of stuff; sports, more watching these days than participating. I love a good film and eating out with Geraldine when we can; visiting and spending time with our family and especially our grandchildren who are amazing.
Gel
I liked to read, swim, spend time with my family, especially the grandchildren.
Q6. What do you enjoy the most about following Jesus?
Ian
This is a good question. It's hard to say, not because there is nothing but rather because there are so many things. For example, His incredible love for me, His grace and mercy which I experience new every day. I also enjoy my life and that through His Holy Spirit, His written word becomes alive, and after serving Him for over 31 years it still remains fresh and I am still discovering new things. I love and enjoy the fact that He can cause divine appointments which may result in praying for someone in the church building, at home, their homes or in the street or place of work. Anywhere in fact. In a nutshell, I guess you can say that Jesus makes my life exciting and different.
Gel
The fact that I know He cares about me in every area of my life and that His faithfulness is there for me always. I have purpose in my life and each day is fresh and vibrant.
Q7. What is your favourite food?
Ian
The many different types of curry Geraldine makes. Excellent as others will testify.
Gel
Well, I don't have one - I enjoy eating and love trying new things, however, I have never found the strength to try tripe!
